Music from Guatemala 1 - 2
|
Music from Guatemala 1 Guatemala is a multicultural country comprising a number of different ethnic groups. The music on this CD covers a wide range. There are many examples of Indian traditional music, played on the flute, shawm, fiddle, harp and percussion instruments. But included here also is music played by a couple of the country´s many local wind orchestras, as well as - above all - music played on the marimba, Guatemala´s national instrument. CAP 21598

Music from Guatemala 2 The Garifuna is a minority group with African roots that came to the country from the West Indies toward the end of the eighteenth century. Their music - unique and almost completely unknown outside their native lands - is irresistible, swinging and characterized by the African heritage and the soft rhythms of the West Indies. This CD was recorded in a hectic day in Guatemala City and include the three groups Suamen, Ugandandi, and Garifuna Boys., CAP 21631 |
