Music from Honduras 1 & 2

Music from Honduras 1
The Central American republic of Honduras has one of Latin America’s least known musical traditions. On the first of these two CDs, we meet for the first time traditional music from the legendary, inaccessible swamp area La Mosquitia to the east, but also dance music from one of the mountain towns which the Indian minority tribe the Lencas call home. There are also many examples of the rich local amateur musical life of the country’s Spanish speaking majority.

Music from Honduras 2
The second CD is dedicated to the music of the Garifuna minority living on the coast and the islands of Honduras. Their music has been described as "the last afro-Caribbean music left to discover," and their breakthrough is imminent. Both traditional music and modern electric pop of today’s Garifunas are presented on this CD, the latter performed by the group "Fuerza Garifuna," which this summer will present their rhythmic explosions to European audiences for the first time on a tour in cooperation with the European festival organization EFWMF.
